At the weekend spontaneous trip to Scarborough turned into a nightmare, 2 hours worth of queuing traffic, boiling weather and a panting dog left us in no mood to carry on the trip as we still had a lot longer to travel, not distance wise but the motorway was at a complete standstill. After a quick call to my parents asking for suggestions to take the dog for a walk, we ended up at Fountains Abby & Studley Rotal Water Garden near Ripon. I have been here before, quite a few years ago though so it was nice to visit again.
Fountains Abby is run by the National Trust so as you would expect the place was kept pristine clean and all the grassy areas were perfectly trimmed along the side of the river, perfect for a picnic. It does cost to enter the Abby but its a really nice day out for all of the family, we took Archie and although he had to be kept of the lead there is path that takes you round the whole area so it’s a nice long walk.
So although it was a terrible start to the day it actually turned out brilliantly.
