This weekend I attended my very first Gin Festival. I was really happy to be invited as the tickets sold out really quickly. So, the Gin Festival was hosted in Sheffield City Hall over 3 days, Dave & I went Friday evening. The festival celebrates artisan local & national Gins, There isn’t a Gordons in sight, Yay!
When we arrived we were greeted by the lovely Laura from the festival pr team, She handed us our amazing Gin glasses (Which you get to take home), a gin handbook pens and blogger badge. The handbooks turned out to be really useful. It was filled with all of the Gins available to try on the night, giving a brief description on their botanical ingredients and what they should be served with.
There was 4 different Gin Bars available to choose from. A, B C and D. You have to buy drinks tokens from the stand as the bars don’t accept any cash, you then take your glass up the the bar & choose the gin you want to try. You then head over to the Fever tree stall and choose your mixer. I am a plain tonic girl.
While we were there we also enjoyed some of the food that was on offer. The Spanish Street food stall, Alimoento did amazing Olive & Manchego skewers & Patatas Bravas – Gorgeous and perfect for soaking up all the gin too! There was also a pick & mix and pork scratching stand where you could purchase really tasty, salty snacks. The only problem I found with the festival is the lack on tables & chairs. I had to sit on the floor to eat my Patatas Bravas. Possibly some benches would be a welcomed addition next year.
While we were there we also joined on of the Gin masterclasses on offer. Ours was hosted by Mike the Brand ambassador from Brockmans Gin. He was a really funny guy and explained the process of the gin they make & how it came about. I have to say Brockmans was one of my favourite gins I tried. I prefer my Gin to be a little fruity with a slight juniper kick. I have tried this in a a pub near my house and really liked it then so I knew it was one of my favorites. We actually bought a bottle to take home with us!
We had such a great time, It was so nice to spend some time with Dave as he has been working away for the past couple of weeks so to go out and have a laugh together was lovely!
If you get chance to go to a Gin Festival near you I would highly recommend it. They run them all over the UK.
