La Roche Posey Redermic R | Retinol For Almost Everyone.

At 27 I know anti Ageing, Fine lines, Wrinkles and crows feet are something I really can’t complain about as a whole, however, I am a big believer in prevention is cheaper than the cure, especially with skin care. So after research and testing out over the past couple of years, The best product for improving the look, feel & tone of skin? Vitamin A. It is the only product that is highly effective in reversing sun damage and signs of ageing in the skin. Vitamin A, however, does not suit my skin. I basically just don’t need that level of treatment just yet which is why I have been on the hunt for a retinol which is a weaker version of Vitamin A (there is much more science that goes into it I’m sure, To find out more head over to Nadine Baggott or Caroline Hirons, They are skincare legends) I have hit a few stumbling blocks along the way. I initially started off using Sunday Riley Luna Oil. I loved this, It’s a great starter product however it is pricey and I thought I could get more from another product which was a little more cost effective. I then tried SkinCeuticals Retinol 1.0, Bloody hell, this was strong, My face peeled after one use which I know is what is supposed to happen but I just couldn’t hack the rate in the peeling and it quite frankly made me feel like crap for about a week because I wouldn’t wear any makeup to work because it just peeled off and looked awful. Safe to say that was given away.

So I have found two products which I really get along with, the Merumaya Retinol Resurfacing Treatment & La Roche Posey Redermic R. I’m not going to go on about the Merumaya Products as I have already posted a blog post (here). I am actually using the La Roche Posey Redermic R treatment most nights at the moment & I think its fantastic. It is a lightweight cream that can be used on the face and neck, I use it all over the face obviously leaving out the eyelids, I do use it around the eye socket and found no issue with that at all and then I take it down the neck. There is no point having a smooth pigmentation/line free face and skipping the neck so make sure you take it to the tits as Caroline Hirons would say! This retinol leaves very very minimal downtime, So the peeling/flaking of the skin was not an issue at all. If I was really inspecting my skin and being picky, round the nose peeled a little but it was really nothing I worried about at all.

How to use retinol products:

Cleanse & tone the skin first – I use my Liz Ear Cleanser but any other cleanser should be fine as long as it removes makeup and dirt.

Apply retinol treatment. I use a pea-sized amount for the face and neck.

if required, apply other products on top.

Don’t use every night, start off slow and build up.

I always use my retinol at night, the following morning I wear an SPF which is usually in my Makeup. This is another reason why I love my It Cosmetics CC Cream.

I like to apply my retinol, leave it for 5 minutes then apply either a hydrating moisturiser or my Pai Rosehip oil. This is my personal preference, but you can mix it up with whatever feels best for your skin. Since using the La Roche Posey Redermic R concentrate (£29.50) I have noticed a big improvement in blemish scars, My skin is really annoying, It marks really easy. The texture of my skin also feels and looks so much better. It is honestly the best thing I have used in quite a long time and I have found stripping back my skincare routine has improved my skin massively and also helped the bank balance too.

If you are concerned with the ageing of the skin, sun damage or pigmentation from acne scarring I think this product should be something you try out. I personally think everyone should use retinol, Just remember to use it correctly. For me, less is more in the retinol world and having a product that is not as harsh will allow me to use it on a regular basis without looking like Gollum for a week post application.

Have you added Retinol into your skincare routine or do you think it is something you are going to look into? let’s have a chat about it in the comments below, I love to hear other skincare routines and advice.
